ENA Energy AB is a municipally-owned limited liability company that was formed in 1972. The company produces electricity and district heating from almost 100 % bio fuel since the middle of the 1990s, which was when the CHP station was put into operation. The district heating is delivered to companies and private households in Enköping. District heating in Enköping is a safe and cheap form of heating produced with environmentally-friendly bio fuel. The bio fuel that is used consists mainly of the residue from logging operations as well as waste from sawmills and paper mills. Consequently, the district heating in Enköping takes advantage of resources that would otherwise not have been utilised. An internationally-acclaimed collaboration with the growers of Salix enables the use of the municipality’s sewage sludge, leading to a reduction in the levels of nitrogen emissions
